"The
best government is the government that is closest to the people."

Congratulations Stonecrest
Residents!
We are now City residents!
The annexation
of our community into the City of Santa Clarita was approved by
LAFCO on July 26 and recorded on July 27. Stonecrest is the 28th
annexation to the City, adding 409 acres and about 1,800 residents
to Santa Clarita. The “Residents in Favor of Annexation”
would like to express our appreciation to everyone in the community
who helped make this annexation effort successful.
The
Results
Because LAFCO
received Protest Forms from less than 15% of the registered voters
in our community, it was obligated by State law to approve the annexation
without an election. Had there been over 15%, a costly and lengthy
special election would have been required. Try as they might, the
opposition was unable to get signed Protest Forms from 15% of the
community. All indications point to the high probability that if
an election had been required, the annexation would have still won
with a significant majority vote.
Please note
the results in the table and analysis below:

There are 1,147
registered voters currently living in Stonecrest. The opposition
was able to collect only 143 Protest Forms, 29 below what they wanted.
It is interesting to note that 48 of the protest forms submitted
to LAFCO were invalidated. Apparently, several people signed more
than one Protest Form and others weren’t registered voters
living in our community.
In summary
143 voters opposed
the annexation, or about 12.5%. That means that 1,004 voters supported
annexation, or about 87.5%. The overwhelming majority realized the
benefits of annexation.
Guess
who was at the LAFCO meeting?
Paul Kroeger,
one of the many attorneys representing Cemex, attended the July
26th LAFCO hearing at which the Stonecrest annexation was approved.
He sat in the back of the chambers, trying to be discrete. Fortunately,
City staff recognized him. After careful consideration, it is our
opinion that Cemex supported the opposition efforts to stop the
annexation. Why else would a multi-billion dollar, multi-national
company care enough to spend the money sending one of their high-priced
attorneys to a meeting regarding the annexation of Stonecrest (631
homes) into the City of Santa Clarita?
SUPPORT
THE
EAST SANTA CLARITA ANNEXATION
True
to its word, the City is now pursuing the annexation application
of its property on which the Cemex mine is located - an
application made possible by the annexation of Stonecrest.
PLEASE
SUPPORT THE CITY, OUR CITY, IN THIS EFFORT. BY WORKING TOGETHER,
WE CAN CONTROL MEGA-MINING IN SOLEDAD CANYON!
