City Annexation Effect on Growth and Development

QUESTION: Growth and development may ruin the quality of life for Santa Clarita. Will the County or the City do a better job of protecting Santa Clarita Valley from poorly planned growth and development?

The City is clearly the better protector against bad development. The record on this conclusive.

The City was originally proposed to encompass more than 150 square miles. Real estate developers exercised power politics and cut the proposed city down to 39.4 square miles.

The developers did this because they clearly understood that the County would demand far less from them than the City.

This opinion is shared by the mining company (CEMEX), which is suing to keep its land in the County and out of the City.

There are numerous examples. One example is close by in Canyon County.
