Police FAQs

More Information: City Police Services

1. Stonecrest is a safe neighborhood. Why do we need more police?

Santa Clarita provides more police on the streets. More police patrols on the streets deters crime, even in Stonecrest.

2. City Sheriffs will already respond if there is an emergency in Stonecrest. Why annex if we already get this service?

Even though a City Sherriff will respond to an emergency in Stonecrest, response times are still longer than in the City. Emergency response times in the City average 5.5 minutes compared to 7.9 minutes in the County, even when a City Sheriff responds! A difference of 2.4 minutes is substantial in an emergency. Also, if Stonecrest streets were patrolled more frequently, as in the City, the emergency could have been avoided.
City Sheriffs will not respond to the more common Priority and Routine calls. Response times for such calls in the unincorporated County are substantially longer.

3. There are several deputies and police officers who live in Stonecrest. Why do we need more patrols when so many cops already live here?

If you have to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency, it doesn’t connect to your neighbor down the street who happens to be a police officer. In an emergency, would you want to rely on this off-duty neighbor who may or may not be home? Do you even know this neighbor and how to contact him/her in an emergency?

In addition, the crime deterrent exists only if there is a visible presence of the police. Off duty officers living in Stonecrest do not provide this visibility.

Even if a substantial number of police live in Stonecrest, any safety they provide is only enhanced by more patrols.
