Cemex Mega Mine

View Map of Cemex Mine Area

The County Board of Supervisors, your local government, approved a 78-million ton gravel mine about one mile from your home. They not only approved it, they entered into an agreement with CEMEX, the mine’s operator, to do everything they can to help the mine begin operation! This mine will:

  • Put one gravel truck on Soledad Canyon Road past Stonecrest each minute for 20 years.
  • Cause such bad air pollution that government standards limiting carcinogens will be exceeded, increasing cancer rates.
  • Leave tons of gravel and dust on the streets
  • Decrease our property values and quality of life!

The only reason that this mine is not operational is that the City of Santa Clarita has spent over $5.5 million to stop it. The City continues to fight this mine. The City has been our savior from this devastating mine that the County thrust upon us.

The Stonecrest annexation will help the City in its efforts:

  • The Stonecrest annexation will bring the City’s boundaries closer to the mine. This will bolster the City’s legal arguments that City residents (us) will be directly and adversely impacted by the mine.
  • If Stonecrest annexes, it would form a “land bridge” to allow the City to pursue the annexation of the CEMEX mine. If mine is annexed the City has jurisdiction over the mining. Click here to see a how Stonecrest connects to this annexation. Click here to see an editorial.

CEMEX does not want the City to annex the mine! Why? Because CEMEX is scared that the City will put them out of business! CEMEX actually sued the City to try and stop the City from annexing it. If Stonecrest doesn’t annex, CEMEX wins, we lose! We lose property values, we lose our health, we lose our safety, we lose our quality of life. Click here to see the City’s website about CEMEX.

Stonecrest is closer to the mine than any other community. We will be impacted the most! Help the City help us! Support the annexation!
