Local Government

Annexation to the City of Santa Clarita means your local government is the City, not the County. City residents are represented by the City Council. Local government and representation offers:

Accountability

  • City Councilmembers are elected at large, meaning City residents are represented by and get to vote for all five councilmembers. (Unincorporated County residents get to vote for only 1 of the 5 County Supervisors.)

Accessibility

  • City Hall is located in Santa Clarita, just a short drive from Stonecrest. (County administration offices are located in Downtown Los Angeles, about 40 miles away.)

  • City Council and Planning Commission meetings are conveniently held in the evening. (The Board of Supervisors and County Planning Commission meet during the work day in downtown Los Angeles.)

  • The 5 City Councilmembers represent all of the 176,000 City residents (1 to 35,000 residents). (Supervisor Antonovich alone represents nearly 2,000,000 people in 24 cities and unincorporated areas.)

  • Councilmembers and City staff are accessible by a local phone call or a short drive to City Hall.

Responsiveness

  • All City offices and facilities are conveniently located locally. That means that City staff can respond quickly to requests for services and/or information.
