Increased
Police Services
The City of Santa Clarita
contracts with the Sheriff’s Department to provide police
services to City residents. The City pays for and receives general
law enforcement services and special investigation services at higher
levels than those provided to residents of the unincorporated County.
In many instances, the City has chosen to fund programs that are
not offered by the County.
- More Police
– There are significantly more general law enforcement patrols
and special investigators per capita and per square mile in the
City. The following table compares levels of certain law enforcement
services between the City and County:

- Crime Deterrence
– In the City, more police are patrolling the streets. More
police are investigating gang activity. More police are interacting
with the community. These efforts help to deter crime before it
happens.
- Shorter Response
Times – Response times are significantly shorter
in the City! Even though a City Sheriff will respond to an emergency
in the County, the emergency response times in the County are
about 50% longer than in the City. City Sheriffs will not respond
to the more common Priority and Routine calls in the County, resulting
in 35% longer waits for County residents.
