Streetlight
Fee
The City’s annual streetlight fee is $45 higher
than the County’s streetlight fee. This fee is collected on
your tax bill. This fee is more than offset by the lower taxes and
fees assessed in the City.
Southern California Edison provides the City with
streetlight services.
- The City’s annual fee is $50. The County
fee is $5.
- This fee pays for:
o Electricity to keep
the streetlights on
o Maintenance, such
as bulb replacement
o Repairs, such as
if a pole is knocked over
o Patrols to ensure
the streetlights are working properly
| Question: |
Why
can the County provide these services for only $5 and it costs
the City $50? |
| Answer: |
It
can’t. The County pays about the same as the City for
these services. County residents essentially are paying the
difference in the fees through the 5% utility users tax. The
City doesn’t charge this tax. |
The following
table shows that even with this increased
assessment, annexation will save you money!
